Maria Bravo – Graduate Trainee
After I graduated in Business Studies in 2009, I joined Cubic as a Graduate Trainee – one of two taken on in September. On Cubic’s graduate scheme, you spend 10 weeks at a time working in a number of different departments, so you get a real feel for their culture and the work they do. This was ideal for me, as I was looking for variety, a challenge and the chance to learn about many different facets of an organisation.
So far, I’d like to go into Project Management as an Assistant Project Manager. I’ve really enjoyed this side of the work and the challenges it entails. Project Management involves taking a brief or request from a customer, then coming up with a plan to deliver the solution. This means liaising with technical teams, then putting together estimates for costs and timescales, taking into account manpower and workflow.
When you work for Cubic your opinion matters. I’ve had every opportunity to do product and other training, and they’ve gone out of their way to give me the best professional development opportunities. When it was agreed that I could benefit from some assertiveness training, I was sent on a two-day Persuasion and Influencing Course in London. I was also invited to do some internal training on Prince2, a Project Management resource – and I’ve seen a lot of other staff doing external training courses, some of which include time off work to study.
